Over 85 years ago in New Jersey, Al Marlow Sr. founded Marlow Pumps. The first product manufactured was a
diaphragm pump designed to handle heavy construction seepage. The Marlow business would grow in many
directions including becoming a manufacturer of the most comprehensive line of Commercial Pool and
Waterpark pumps in the world.
Today, Marlow Pumps is an integral part of ITT Corporation, the world’s largest and premier pump supplier.
For more than 85 years, Marlow has been an innovator, not only in the Pool market, but in many other industries as
well. Below are some of the significant milestones in Marlow history:
1924 - Marlow Pumps is founded by Al Marlow Sr. in Bartley, NJ
1929 - The first manufacturing building is constructed on the Midland
Park, NJ site.
1932 - Marlow markets its first self-priming pump.
1940 - A revolutionary new pump, using diffuser priming, is introduced.
1948 - Marlow perfects and introduces the first vertical self-priming
pump.
1953 - A merger takes place between Marlow Pumps and the Bell &
Gossett Company of Morton Grove, Illinois, a manufacturer of hot water heating
specialties, heat exchangers and centrifugal pumps.
1964 - Bell & Gossett approves the acquisition of their company by
the International Telephone & Telegraph Corporation (ITT). Marlow Pumps becomes a
Division of ITT Bell & Gossett.
1970 - Marlow becomes the first company to successfully produce and
market a plastic pump for the swimming pool industry.
1974 - Marlows Mardur residential pool pump becomes the first UL
Listed pump for that service.
1975 - The first Two-Speed pump is developed and introduced by Marlow for
use in the residential pool market for energy conservation and greater pool efficiency.
1979 - TRASH HOG II, the second generation of solids handling,
self-priming pumps is introduced.
1980 - Marlow introduces the first pump specifically designed for
whirlpool bathtubs and quickly becomes the industry leader in this market.
1982 - The Marlow two-speed pump receives a patent for use in
hydrotherapy devices such as spas and whirlpool bathtubs.
1988 - Prime Line, a new generation of more efficient self-priming
pumps is introduced.
1991 - Continuing its history of innovation, Marlow introduces the
revolutionary Gemini Plus whirlpool bath pump, utilizing for the first time in this
industry, a motor with a plastic housing
1992 - With ITTs acquisition of Allis Chalmers Pumps, Marlow adds
horizontal split case pumps to its already broad line of pumps available for Commercial
Pools and Waterparks.
1998 - ITTs acquisition of Goulds Pumps allows Marlow to add
vertical turbine pumps to its pump line utilized in waterparks.

The trusted Marlow Pumps name can now be found on a full range of pump products for the
Commercial Pool and Waterpark markets. The Marlow portfolio includes self-priming, end suction
centrifugal, split case and vertical turbine pumps as well as in-line strainers.
Products are manufactured in the U.S. with facilities in Illinois, New York and Texas.
